Spot the difference pictures

8 free picture pairs, each with five changes hidden in the second image. Look, compare, then reveal the answers โ€” or skip to the end and build one from a photo of your own.

Every puzzle below uses a real photograph rather than a drawing. That matters more than it sounds: line art gives you clean edges to compare, while a photo buries the changes in texture, shadow and clutter. A missing flower is easy to spot in a cartoon and genuinely tricky in a lotus pond.

Start with picture A, then work across to picture B. The changes are always small โ€” a colour that shifted, an object that appeared or vanished, a detail that moved a few centimetres. Nothing is hidden behind another object, and nothing depends on knowing what the scene "should" look like.

Playing on a phone

Rotate to landscape. Side by side is the only layout where your eyes can flick between the two pictures without moving your head โ€” which is the whole skill the game tests.

What makes a good spot the difference picture

The best pictures share three things. They have texture, so a small change does not stand out immediately. They have a clear foreground subject, so your eye has somewhere to start. And they have a few busy areas โ€” foliage, gravel, a bookshelf โ€” where a change can hide without being cruel.

Flat surfaces are the enemy. A change on a blank wall is either invisible or insultingly obvious, with nothing in between. That is why so many puzzles are built from gardens, markets and cluttered rooms.

Difficulty also comes from how much of the picture you can hold in your head at once. Two pictures side by side let you compare directly. Two pictures on separate pages turn the game into a memory test, which is a different โ€” and much less fun โ€” activity.

Questions

Are these spot the difference pictures free to use?

Yes. All 8 puzzles on this page are free to view, print and hand out โ€” no sign-up, no download limit. Teachers and parents use them as fillers, and they work as party games too.

How many differences are in each picture?

Five, in every puzzle. That is the standard for printed spot the difference puzzles and it keeps each one solvable in two to four minutes.

What is the best way to play on a phone?

Turn the phone landscape so the two pictures sit side by side. If you are on a narrow screen the pictures stack, which makes comparing them much harder.

Can I make a spot the difference picture from my own photo?

Yes โ€” that is what this site is built for. Upload a photo, the generator adds five changes, and you get a clean pair you can print or share. You can generate and preview one for free before paying.
